Spring 2010

Classes:  When taking a class we ask that you use yarn purchased here at Unwind. Each purchase you make at Unwind ensures that we can continue to offer classes and yarn at a reasonable price as well as stay in business.  Classes and projects are also designed to work with specific yarns, and may not translate directly to yarns we do not stock.  All supplies and yarn for the class that you are taking receive a 10% discount.

Basic Knitted Project:   Beginner.  Has it been a while since you have picked up needles or are you tired of dish cloths and scarves:  This class is for you.  Pick a small project and we will help you learn the skills to complete it.  Class meets Sat 1-2:30 April 10^th, 17^th, and 24^th.  Cost is $35 plus materials.  Instructor Julie Shank.

Beginning Knitting:  Beginner.  This class is for the true beginner.  We will learn to cast on, the knit stitch, the purl stitch and casting off.   Class meets Sat 10:30-12 May 22, June 5^th and 12^th.  Cost is 35$ plus materials.  Instructor Julie Shank.

Coble Cable Pullover:  Intermediate Beginner.  This is the pattern that Helen Coble from Yarn and Yardage taught as a beginning knitting class.  This sweater is knit on large needles with bulky weight yarn.  You need to know the basics of knit and purl.  We will learn ribbing, increasing, decreasing, cabling, picking up stitches and seaming.  Class meets Sat 10:30-12 April 10^th, 17^th, 24^th, May 1^st,  May 8^th and 15^th  Cost is $50 plus materials (pattern included)  Instructor Vicki Hair.

Constant Companion Felted Bag:  This popular felted bag is a great project to learn felting and to practice your basic knitting skills.  We will also be experimenting with needle felting.  Class meets Thurs PM 5:30-7.  April 8^th, 15^th, 22, and 29^th.  Cost is $35 plus materials.  Instructor Julie Shank.

Hey Teach! Summer Short Sleeved Cardigan:  Advanced.  The recommended yarn for this project is 2^nd Time Cotton, an eco-friendly recycled cotton yarn.  The yoke is a simple lace pattern.  We will learn to read a chart and to decrease in pattern.  Class meets Sat 3-4:30 April 10^th, 17^th, 24^th, May 1^st and May 8^th.  Cost is $45 plus materials (pattern included).  Instructor Vicki Hair.

Perfect Tee:  Intermediate.  This Ann Norling Pattern offers a wide range of gauges and sizes along with several styles to choose from.  We will learn to follow this pattern as well as basic sweater making skills of gauge, increasing, decreasing, picking up stitches and seaming.  Class meets Thurs. PM 5:30-7:00.  May 6^th, 13^th, 20^th, 27^th, June 3^rd and 10^th.  Cost is $50 plus materials.  Instructor Julie Shank.

Sensational Socks:  Intermediate.  Must be comfortable with casting on and the knit and purl stitch.  In this 6 week class we will make a small “class” sock to learn the basic techniques of heel flaps, turning the heel, gussets and the kitchner stitch.  Then using the Sensational Sock book you will select a sock pattern and design a custom sock for yourself.  Class meets Sat 1-2:30 May 1^st, 8^th, 15^th, 22^nd, and  June 5^th and 12^th.  Cost is $50 plus materials.  Instructor Vicki Hair.

Yin Yang Bolero:  Intermediate.  The recommended yarn for this project is Ty-Dy Cotton.  The Bolero is one piece worked in garter stitch.  We will learn a mid row cast on and to change yarns mid row as well as seaming in garter.  Class meets Sat 3-4:30 May 15^th, 22^nd, June 5^th, and 12^th.  Cost is $35 plus materials.  Instructor Julie Shank.

Knitting Graduation Party!

Saturday June 19^th from 1-3 come and celebrate all that you have accomplished this year (even if it is one sock)  This is a time to get together with other knitters and yarn enthusiasts to share our projects and have a good time.  Refreshments provided.  Cameras welcome.

Loops of Love welcomes knitters and crocheters of all skill levels.  We are a charity group that meets the 1^st and 3^rd Tues of the month from 5-7 pm @ Unwind.  We also welcome donations of yarn and yarn scraps.  Sponsored by Richmond Church of the Brethren and Unwind Yarn Shop.  Free to attend and all are welcome.
